Global Smile Foundation (GSF) was formed in 2008 as a Massachusetts not-for-profit corporation. The founding members are a group of dedicated volunteers and medical professionals who have been...
Global Smile Foundation MENA (GSF-MENA) is an international NON–PROFIT organization dedicated to conducting cleft outreach programs throughout the Middle East and North Africa. One of its main goals is to alleviate the suffering of underserved patients born with congenital facial deformities with special emphasis on patients with cleft lips and palates. In fact, GSF volunteers have been changing the lives of underprivileged patients in the developing world for the past 27 years.
Collectively, GSF volunteers recognized the need for not just offering fragmented corrective surgical procedures to patients born with cleft lip and palate deformities, but also the urgent need for implementing comprehensive care coupled with educational and preventive programs.
GSF pioneered international virtually augmented surgery between GSF Surgeons in outreach settings & the U.S.
GSF-MENA's mission is to provide comprehensive & multi-disciplinary cleft care at all sites served and to support the local communities in developing a cleft team approach to manage their patient population.
This commitment is reflected by our comprehensive team staffing of various specialties that work together to provide our patients with the best care.
It is our goal to alleviate the suffering of underserved patients born with facial congenital deformities with special emphasis on cleft lips and palates.
To provide access for free comprehensive and multi-disciplinary care to underserved children born with facial congenital deformities with special emphasis on cleft lips and palates without discrimination
To increase public awareness & understanding for these stigmatizing deformities as well as effective preventative measures
To provide education and hands-on training for healthcare providers to enhance empowerment and sustainability of local talents and to better serve these patients in their local communities
With the recent advancements and breakthroughs in medicine and the shift towards sub specialization, adequate medical care is currently defined by a holistic approach based on treating patients through a multidisciplinary practice, supplied by highly qualified healthcare professionals.
In the Middle East and North Africa, craniofacial surgery has evolved extensively over the past decades. Nevertheless, the public understanding of cleft deformities and available treatment remains a "taboo" in many communities. With the absence of awareness, expertise, and centralization of treatment in specialized medical centers, the field of pediatric craniofacial surgery, and in particular cleft lip and palate, has long been neglected in the region. With the increasing incidence of cleft cases, lack of adequate management and the absence of effective medical care, the need to address this growing issue has risen.
GSF-MENA's Mission, in line with Global Smile Foundationís Vision and ongoing global efforts, is to provide comprehensive cleft care to underserved patient populations through a multidisciplinary team approach and to enhance the training of various healthcare professionals.
The cleft team consists of specialists in plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatrics, otolaryngology, genetics, speech, nutrition, dental, child psychology and family support services among many other fields.
We strive to empower local communities through annual outreach programs which include: A wide spectrum of lectures covering all the medical and dental specialties represented on the...
